Definition: Aneurysm repair is a neurosurgical or endovascular procedure performed to treat a bulging or weakened area in a brain artery that poses a risk of rupture and bleeding (subarachnoid hemorrhage).
Procedure Steps:
• – Diagnostic imaging (CT angiography, MRI, or cerebral angiogram) to locate and size the aneurysm.
• – Depending on the case, one of two approaches is chosen: Surgical Clipping or Endovascular Coiling.
• – Placement of metal clip or platinum coils to seal off the aneurysm.
• – Postoperative monitoring in neuro–ICU for possible complications such as vasospasm or rebleeding.
Purpose / Benefits:
• – To prevent aneurysm rupture or rebleeding, which can cause brain damage or death.
• – To permanently seal off the aneurysm while maintaining normal blood flow to the brain.
