Definition: A surgical procedure to correct a congenital blockage at the junction where the kidney pelvis meets the ureter (Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction – UPJ).
Procedure Steps:
1. Anesthesia: General anesthesia.
2. Access: Can be done open, laparoscopically, or robotically.
3. Repair: The narrowed or obstructed segment is surgically removed. The healthy ureter is then reattached to the kidney pelvis in a way that creates a wide, funnel-shaped opening.
4. Stent: A ureteral stent is placed to support the healing.
